2020 ICD USA SECTION
FOUNDATION PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Greetings on behalf of the ICD USA Foundation Board of Trustees!

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your Foundation’s President as we embark upon this new decade.  The 2020 Board of Trustees (BOT) are a group of enthusiastic, engaged, innovative and motivated Fellows whose efforts in following the Strategic Plan of both the Section and Foundation are exceptional.  It is a pleasure to work alongside such competent colleagues and I know we will accomplish much to continue to move the Foundation forward this year.

The USA Section Foundation belongs to each and every ICD USA Section Fellow in good standing. The Mission of the ICD USA Section Foundation  is “to support and promote educational, scientific, literary and humanitarian efforts of the ICD USA Section and other collaborating organizations and individuals”.   In every publication you receive from the Section, along with links to interesting articles, events, charitable projects around the country and globe, there will be a link to donate to the Foundation.  Why should you donate?  Where is your donation directed?  Is my donation tax-deductible?

The Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) corporation which means that every dollar you donate is fully tax deductible and the funds must be used in accordance with the IRS code for this type of corporation.  The motto of the ICD USA Section is “Serving Others”.  In keeping with this motto, the Section has launched several projects and programs to expand its outreach in providing humanitarian and educational aid in the USA and developing countries throughout the world.  With the generous support of our Fellows making donations to the Foundation, the Section is able to fulfill its goals in this effort.  Successful ongoing projects that your donations contribute to are the growth of the International Student Exchange Program, Global Health Student Associations, the International Humanitarian Outreach Program, Humanitarian Volunteer Seminars and the Kikuyu and Chogoria Hospital Dental Clinics in Kenya, Africa to name just a few.  Click here to view our projects.

Your generous donation is also used to support the growth of two ICD USA Foundation Grant Programs.  The first program is the General Grant Program.   In 2019, the General Grant Program awarded approximately $138,000 for humanitarian projects to individuals or groups who applied.  A sample of General Grant recipient projects are:  Mending Faces, Haitian Health Foundation, Temple Dental School Humanitarian Outreach, and Everyone for Veterans. The application deadline for the General Grant is July 31, 2020. The Second program is called the Henry Schein Cares Humanitarian Stimulus Grant which is a special collaborative Foundation program created to support ICD USA Section Fellows’ projects in their local or state communities. This program provides $500 to each applicant to be used to help initiate or provide ongoing support for these projects.  Application deadline for these grants has been extended to April 30, 2020.  Please click here for more information about the grant process for both programs.

How can you give?  Time, Talent, Treasure? So many of our Fellows give countless hours of their time and talent to the underserved in their communities and beyond, to education and to research. Others contribute with the gift of treasure. Some do all three.  It does not matter how you give the important thing is that you do.  It is our Fellows and their generous gifts that are the backbone of the International College of Dentists.  It is who we are and we thank all who give back in any way you can.

Your donation to the Foundation can be made in several ways:  As a general donation, funding or contributing to a “Named” Fund, joining the Century Club and or signing up for the Legacy Club. Click here for more information about making a donation. The Foundation also has the “Key Room” where you can purchase items to wear or use in your daily lives. A portion of the sales from the Key Room are donated to the Foundation.  Click here to shop at our Key Room. The dollars collected from all sources are used to support the Section projects and grant programs I have mentioned above.

With your continued support of time, talent and treasure, the ICD USA Foundation will be able to continue to increase its support of both the Grant Program and the Section’s projects.

Thank you for all the outreach you do in your communities and for the International College of Dentistry.  You make our profession and our organization “Proud”.

In Fellowship,

Dr. Margaret M. Culotta-Norton, DDS, FICD
