Dr. James Allen presents Dr. Linda Himmelberger with a personalized Dental Stamp Collection at the Spring ICD Board of Regents Meeting in Savannah for being the first to donate at the Founders Level of $1,000 to this special Fund.
Those who donate at the Founders Level of $1,000 or more will receive one of these engraved Stamp Collections with five or six dental stamps as seen in the photo while supplies last. These stamps were generously donated by John's wife, Ruth. John was an avid collector of dental theme stamps from around the world with over 600 stamps in his collection. John served in many leadership positions including President of the Section and Foundation before his tragic passing. On behalf of the Foundation and USA Section, we would like to thank Ruth Lathrop for donating this wonderful collection of dental stamps to the Foundation in memory of her husband. Donation Form »
Those who donate at the Level of $500 or more will receive the new ICD USA Section Foundation Ceremonial Robe Pouch and Coin. These coins honor the late Dr. Richard G. Shaffer for his involvement with the robes and Convocation for 25 years. Dr. Shaffer was the Secretary General for the International College of Dentists and the Registrar for the USA Section from 1989 thru 1998.

(Gift: Ceremonial Robe Pouch and ICDF Coin)
The Shaffer coin represents the alignment between the ICD USA Section and the ICD USA Section Foundation providing a unity of effort as we continually move forward. The Section core values of Integrity, Leadership and Service with Dr. Shaffer's image are on one side and the Foundation logo is on the other. Aligned and together the Section and Foundation can and do support the wonderful service initiatives throughout the world as Dr. Shaffer always envisioned. More information >
It is my pleasure to tell you about the past stellar year enjoyed by the Foundation of the USA Section. Because of the growth of our corpus and an increase in the revenue stream realized by the generous donations of the Fellows of our Section the Foundation has been able to continue its support of outreach projects and programs in Asia, Africa, South America and here in the United States. We have helped train public health dentists in Southeast Asia, provided for the operation of the Kikuyu Hospital Dental Clinic in Kenya, sponsored exchange dental students from countries in South America and Europe, and supported numerous programs in the United States including the Peace Corps, Dental Journalism and White coat ceremonies. In 2011 we also established the Fisher House project where ICD Fellows volunteer to provide free emergency care to the families of wounded warriors should the need arise while they are residing in a Fisher House in the US awaiting the treatment of a wounded warrior relative.
It is my privilege to announce the creation of the John Lathrop Memorial Fund. Many Fellows remember John for his love and devotion to the International College of Dentists. He served in many leadership positions including President of the Section and for a short time as President of this Foundation before his tragic passing. He was also an avid collector of dental theme stamps from around the world. John's wife, Ruth Lathrop, has generously offered to donate this collection of over six hundred stamps to the ICD. The first one hundred contributors of a thousand dollars or more will be designated as "Founders" of the John Lathrop Memorial Fund. Please consider including this in your charitable program for the coming year. As a token of our appreciation we will send you a beautifully framed set of six stamps from the Lathrop worldwide dental stamp collection. Please contact the ICD USA Section Office for more information. Contact us.
The last year also saw a clarification and recommitment to the relationship between the Section and the Foundation. This understanding will allow the Foundation to offer greater support for some of the programs and initiatives of the Section. Our Constitution and Bylaws have been reviewed by our attorneys and brought up to date and our horizons have never been more exciting.
God has given the leaders of the dental profession wonderful rewards and opportunities. Please step up and help us help those who are so much less fortunate.
Wishing you all health and happiness in the coming year.
In Fellowship,
James R. Allen, D.M.D.
Foundation President
