USA-ICD Awards

Dental Journalism Awards                                 The 2013 deadline is March 31st!

The Dental Journalism Awards is one of the ICD's longest ongoing projects, and is in its 40th year of competition.  The awards are open to any English language dental publication throughout the world.

The Dental Journalism Awards are to recognize those publications that have exhibited outstanding journalism in content, graphics and improvement during the past year and encourage others to bring their own publication to a higher level.  The competition has been placed in high esteem by Dental Editors and their staffs over the years, shown by the high level of quality publications that have entered the contest each year.

The Dental Journalism Award categories are:

  Golden Pen . . . . . . . This award is presented to the editor of a publication that contains an article or series of articles that is of current importance to the dental profession.  Editorials are not included in this award category.
  Platinum Pencil . . . . This award is presented to the editor whose publication demonstrated
outstanding, creative and effective use of graphics, illustrations and design.
  Silver Scroll . . . . . . . This award is presented to the editor whose publication demonstrated the most overall improvement during the publication year compared to previous year issues of the publication. Both present and past issues of this publication must be submitted for consideration for this award.
  Special Citation . . . . This award is presented to the editor whose publication demonstrates an unusual concept, presentation or other distinctive quality. All entries are considered for this award.
  Newsletter . . . . . . . . This award is presented to the editor of a newsletter which demonstrates an overall quality of graphics, design and content. 
  Outstanding Cover This award is presented to the editor for originality used in graphics and design for covers of dental publications.
  Article/Editorial on Leadership. . . . . . . . This award is presented to the author of the most outstanding article or editorial that encourages dentists to become involved in leadership positions and/or other activities within their profession.

Dental Student Leadership Award

This award recognizes the senior student who has shown outstanding Leadership and academic and professional improvement during the years as a student of dentistry; and has great potential to continue to do so. Chosen by their faculty, the student is given a plaque from the U.S.A. Section. This  award is given at each U.S. dental school.

Distinguished Deputy Regent Award

This annual award recognizes the Deputy Regent who has distinguished themselves from their Fellows.

Honorary Fellows

This award recognizes those fellow who have been invited to join USA-ICD as an honorary member.

Master Fellowship Award

The Section or Governing Body may nominate a Fellow of the College, who has rendered extraordinarily conspicuous and outstanding service to the College, for Master Fellowship. The Awarding of Master Fellowship is considered to be a rare distinction which is only awarded to Active or Life Fellows with the approval of the International Council or its Executive Committee.

Model District Award

This award is to encourage District improvement by recognizing Districts that meet minimum standards of performance in three areas. Districts will voluntarily apply for recognition by completing a Model District Award application and submitting it to the USA Section Office four (4) weeks prior to the spring Board of Regents meeting of each year. The Membership Committee will review each application against pre-established standards and determine if the District meets minimum requirements in all areas. Districts that meet standards will be designated as Model Districts and recognized at the Annual Meeting and Convocation. The Model District designation will be good for a three-year period at the end of which time the District will need to re-apply.
