The Key to District 4 - March 2009
REGENT’S REPORT
I'm often amazed how quickly time moves forward. Perhaps, it just means I'm getting older, which is the reality and certainly a good alternative. It's hard for me to believe that my four year term as Regent will very shortly be completed in Honolulu. I can remember being a very green and energetic new Regent and how privileged I was to be a part of an outstanding Board of Regents with consistent and excellent leadership at the top. I remember how supportive Bob Brady and his staff were and have always been. I will always remember the many very giving and genuine individuals that I have met during my years as Regent and their commitment to making a difference in their lives and in their profession.
I am very proud of our District, our Vice Regent, Deputy Regents, officers, and many Fellows that I have met over these years. This relationship has grown from a superficial one to a deep appreciation of your many talents and your commitment to your families, the ICD, and our profession. I believe we have accomplished much as a District over this period and thank all of you for your contributions and your participation, I would like to recap a few of these achievements, express a few thoughts for the future, and encourage you to attend the outstanding CEC in Baltimore and Post Trip to Washington, Annapolis, and the Naval Academy.
I believe it may have been a first that we were able to meet as a District with our Deputy Regents Leadership Coordinators, and Editor at the magnificent Donaldson Brown Conference Center on the Susquehanna. This gave our diverse group an opportunity to spend a few days together and look at our priorities and concerns for our Constituent Chapters and the District. We initiated a District E-News letter with Pit Johnson, as our Editor. The outcome of the conference was so positive that we had a second conference in our third year. Again, it was a very positive and motivating meeting and offered an excellent opportunity to build some strong relationships.
It is noteworthy that we have consistently increased the number of our outstanding Fellows by 10% each year. We have also had the largest class of all the 17 Districts. This has occurred following a previous decline in the yearly induction of new Fellows from our District. Puerto Rico has become reactivated after a hiatus of many years. They will have two Fellows inducted this year, and had two new Fellows in 2007. Maryland and New Jersey are participating in the Student Exchange Program and the District of Columbia has started a white coat ceremony at Howard University. There are many other noteworthy accomplishments, and I apologize if I missed any key projects.
W. Michael Kenney, Regent
