President’s Message
Dr. Tommy Harrison, DDS
A Great Year for "Great Expectations" & the Texas Section
As president of the Texas Section of the International College of Dentists (ICD), it's my honor and privilege to provide the Fellows an update of current activities. One of the objectives of the College and this Section is "to endeavor to unite outstanding members of the dental profession of the United States of America for the purpose of fostering growth and diffusion of dental knowledge, and to encourage an exchange of goodwill among the members of the profession throughout the world."
To that end, Dr. LeightonWier from SanAntonio completed his year as president of the USASection of ICD at theAnnual Session held in Hawaii. His leadership during a time of transition at the national office has been exemplary.We are all indebted to him for his service. Dr. Richard Smith serves as Treasurer of the USA Section and Dr. Paul Stubbs serves as Regent for District 15. Texas Fellows are proud of the leadership provided by these dedicated individuals.
The Great Expectations (GE) Mentoring Professionalism Program that began at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas is entering its third year of existence. The program began under the leadership of Dr. Moody Alexander with inspiration from Dr. Art Dagoni and the dedicated leadership of Dr. Mark Gannaway, Dr. Bill Birdwell, Dr. John Chandler and others. Great Expectations at the University of Health Science Center at Houston, Dental Branch, is enjoying its second year and is led by Dr. Phil Pierpont, Associate Dean of Student and Alumni Affairs. Last but not least, Dr. Rise Lyman, presidentelect of the Texas Section of ICD has organized a group of Fellows from the San Antonio area to initiate a GE Program at the Dental School at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
