August 2007 ICD Journalism Awards The International College of Dentists promotes excellence in dental journalism through the presentation of the ICD Journalism Awards to dental editors, authors and publications which merit recognition because of the quality of their publications. There are approximately seven hundred dental publications in the United States. Each year a group of ICD judges gather for a weekend in May to read submitted editorials and articles, appraise cover designs, and evaluate layout and design of newsletters and journals from all over the United States and Canada. Some have circulations of only a few hundred. Others are sent to thousands of dentists. Some are run on a shoestring budget. Others have budgets running into the thousands. Some have a staff of one volunteer dentist, while others may have a volunteer dental editor supported by a staff of several paid professionals. The larger publications are considered as Division 1, and the smaller publications Division 2. In most years a journalism award is presented in each Division in the following categories:

The winners of the 2007 ICD Journalism Awards will be announced at the meeting of the American Association of Dental Editors in San Francisco in September.
