November 2007 One of the major goals of the USA Section is to develop programs which encourage dental leadership. And what better place to start than with dental students and the young professional?
All of the constituents have also worked with the dental schools to emphasize leadership within the senior class by recognizing the winner of the ICD Student Leadership Award with a plaque. Some constituents also grant a monetary award to the winner. Other constituent chapters have instituted a mentoring program for senior students or newly graduated dentists. Some have even set up scholarship funds. While much of the direction for these programs comes from the USA Section, implementation is carried out at the state level. For these programs to remain successful and to grow it is important that ICD fellows support their local programs. Your involvement is essential. Every fellow of the ICD is a proven leader. Who else can better foster leadership and provide a positive influence upon dentistry's newest professionals? Contact your state officers; come to an annual business meeting. By working together we can strengthen our profession now and for the future. Let's step forward and develop, promote and recognize leadership.
