The Dr. H. Clifton Simmons III Memorial Fund was established to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Dr. Simmons. Dr. Simmons was the International College of Dentists (ICD) USA Section Editor. The Fund will be used to promote the projects that he championed in the ICD USA Section: journalism, service, and education. Dr. Simmons had a career signified by service to others. While having a private practice in Nashville, Tennessee treating craniofacial pain, temporomandibular disorders, and general dentistry, he made major professional contributions by teaching at several dental schools, serving as editor for a number of major professional publications, and fulfilling leadership positions in a variety of professional organizations.

Dr. Simmons was an avid leader at his church and a loving family member. His family included not only his wife and children but seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was a strong advocate for humanitarian service and felt strongly that ICD Fellows should fulfill the ICD’s recognition of Integrity, Leadership, and, especially Service. He believed that giving back to mankind was one of the most important gifts that a person could provide. He promoted service activities in all of his professional endeavors.

Dr. Simmons taught part time for 21 years, always cherishing the time he spent with students. His expertise in temporomandibular disorders was welcomed by both the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry.

Throughout his career, Dr. Simmons attained leadership positions in professional organizations, including the presidencies of the Tennessee Dental Association (TDA), Nashville Dental Society (NDS), and Tennessee Academy of General Dentistry (TAGD) among others. He was also honored with the highest professional awards from both the TDA and TAGD.

Dr. Simmons leaves a loving family, many professional colleagues and friends throughout the USA. His integrity, leadership and service will be missed but his positive influence will be everlasting. This H. Clifton Simmons III Memorial Fund will honor his legacy.
